Come make your own tie-dye t-shirt and Hula Hoop! First, you'll learn a little history about these two colorful and fun throwbacks from the 60's. Find out how folding and applying dyes can create an infinite number of tie-dye designs, then use what you've learned to carefully plan and make your your own t-shirt. We will use fiber reactive dyes that produce vibrant colors that don't fade. Next, make and decorate your own Hula Hoop. I might even sneak a little math in (measuring, diameter, radius, circumference, and pi ). Finally, we'll play some games, try some tricks, and have a Hula Hoop challenge. Best of all, you can wear your tie-dye and play with your Hula Hoop all summer long, and beyond! A snack break is also planned between the two activities.
I will wash and deliver your ready to wear t-shirt on Friday, July 17, or August 7.

SESSION 1: WANDS & POTIONS July 27 (SOLD OUT) or AUGUST 10 (1 SPOT LEFT)
We'll start with Wandlore, an ancient and mysterious branch of magic that involves the study of woods, cores,
and other aspects of wands, then you'll use your creativity to plan and make your own wand, with your choice
of a core. Will it be dragon heartstring, Phoenix feather, or unicorn hair? See if you can pass the
spell matching challenge, and use your wand in a dueling session. You will also brew some potions, while
learning about chemical reactions and using the tools of science. This camp gives students practice in measuring and becoming familiar with the tools used in science. Potions in this camp will change colors, bubble
SESSION 2: TRANSFIGURATION & POTIONS JULY 28 (SOLD OUT) or AUGUST 11 (1 SPOT LEFT)
In transfiguration class, you will change objects from one thing into another. You will do this using chemistry to change two liquids to a solid, and then using your creativity, transfigure it into a "foam gnome". If that's not enough fun, in potions class you'll mix up some slime! Students will practice measuring with tools used in science. We will also play Harry Potter related games.
SESSION 3: MAGICAL CREATURES & ANCIENT RUNES JULY 29 (SOLD OUT) or AUGUST 12 (1 SPOT LEFT)
Billwigs, Horclumps, and Plimpy's. Oh MY! Become a magizoologist and hunt for these magical creatures and more. Observe them carefully, by measuring, sketching, and recording their characteristics, then and report back to the Department for Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures with your findings and identify them using a dichotomous key. Get paid in Gringotts coins for a job well done, and use them to buy treats. Next, Hogwarts needs your help! An ancient runic script was recently discovered buried on the grounds. In The Study of Ancient Runes, an elective class at Hogwarts, you will use the Elder Futhark runic alphabet and your skills to translate and uncover the hidden meaning of these scripts. May be they will be a clue to find something magical?
SESSION 4: POTIONS AND TRANSFIGURATION II JULY 30 (SOLD OUT) or August 13 (1 SPOT LEFT)
During potions you will learn about density and make a "lava lamp" in a bottle and "fireworks" in a jar. Students will become familiar with and use science tools to measure potion ingredients.
During Transfiguration, you'll have fun with polymers, creating "worms" from liquid, making fake snow, and enlarging and shrinking objects.
